Shahid: There's no similarity between MAUSAM and Tom Cruise's TOP GUN

Shahid Kapoor is amused that just playing an air force officer in his soon-to-go-on-floors film MAUSAM is being equated to his doing a remake of Tom Cruise starrer TOP GUN. Brushing off any similarities whatsoever other than the fact that he too would be donning a uniform for his father's debut directorial effort, Shahid insists that if not his, the credibility of his father should be kept in mind by those who float such rumours.

"My father's career spans more than 25 years and he has been known for his original work even as an actor. This is the reason why he has acted in only 35 odd movies despite getting so much critical acclaim. Do you think that for his own film as a director, he would end up remaking another film", questions Shahid Kapoor who also comes clear on his character being modeled on the same lines as that of Tom Cruise.

"Ok, so I am relatively new to the industry but at least respect my dad's credibility as a film personality", smiles Shahid, " MAUSAM, which actually is a working title, has nothing to do with TOP GUN except for the fact that in that film Tom Cruise played the role of a Naval Flight Officer while in MAUSAM I play an Air Force officer. Other than that, there is no similarity whatsoever since my dad has written an entirely original story and screenplay of the film."

One wonders though that how did the entire news start making the rounds when there wasn't any similarity to begin with? "Search me", Shahid is completely ignorant of the source of this rumour making the rounds, "I don't know how someone just picked the Tom Cruise angle just because I play a uniformed officer in my film. On the contrary MAUSAM is a love story."
